A Guide to Creative Summer Suiting. 🌤️

CREATIVE SUITING THE GREEN WAY

by Men’s Style Pro: Sabir M. Peele

Bored at the idea of suiting up to get back to the office? We completely understand. Rules have changed and the years of WFH and sweat pant culture are kind of behind us — it’s time to reevaluate your tailored life.

So, today we’re taking on the task of styling this double-breasted windowpane suit (fabric: wool/silk/linen). From a creative office look to a derby style vibe, here’s three ways to take a creative approaching to suiting this season.

Back to the Office

Wearing a green suit will immediately draw attention, especially at the office. So here a few style tips to get your through that 9-to-5. Rule #1: gauge your workplace.

  • This particular look is about pattern play between the check shirt and windowpane suit. Understanding how to use scale will help your pull this look off. Large check suit pattern paired with a smaller scale check shirt pattern.

  • Keep your tie solid and opt for a knit one for more texture.

  • Oxford shoes are always a proper choice for the office, however; a brown suede or leather loafer works too.

Garden Party Ready

When buying a patterned suit, remembers it’s all about versatility. The ability to wear the pieces as separates is always major selling point. This look focuses on rocking the jacket with a pair of white denim trousers and leaving the matching trousers at home..

  • White pants (tailored denim, chinos) are the perfect complement to a linen-blend blazer. The textures are stunning together. And if the blazer is patterned, it breaks up the monotony of wear a full suit.

  • Style secret: get yourself a light blue, denim shirt. Either a spread or a tall button down collar.

  • Also, patch pocket blazers dress down as separates much easier than flap pocket blazers. Patch pockets are my preferred option for all suits and blazer because they’re highly functional.

  • Have a bit more fun with your footwear, but, stick with a loafer.

Derby Ready

We can’t forgot about derby season. Even if you’re not into horse racing, a derby party is a damn good reason to throw on a bold suit. You could approach styling this suit several ways (ie. completely buttoned up) — and, for this we went for the summer casual style.

  • Pairing a solid navy Cuban collar shirt with this double-breasted suit is casual cool at it’s finest. This way you let the suit do what it does best, there’s no need for a tie and when it heats up — you can feel the breeze on your chest.

  • Let’s address the straw hat. Often straw hats come off as “Margaritaville”-vibes — that being said, when paired with this suit the textures complement each other well. And, opting to go tieless & sockless adds to to casual nature of the overall experience

  • This look and the prior look are great options for garden parties, outdoor weddings with a relaxed yet stylish dress code.
