Let's Talk NFL Tunnel Style. šŸˆ

Breaking down this season's outfits.

We’re a few weeks into the 2025 NFL season, and one of our projects at the moment, is a weekly assignment for Marcus Jones of the New England Patriots. Marcus has been apart of the SG family for a while now, since his senior year at the University of Houston. It’s always fun working with Marcus on his outfits, as he looks great in a wide variety of styles, and he’s also open to rocking fits that may sometimes be out of his comfort zone. But let’s jump in for a breakdown of his Week 1 through 5 fits, and the ideology behind each Gameday attire.

Week 1 v. Las Vegas Raiders

The first couple of games are always challenging due to the intense heat on Sunday afternoons. Typically short sleeve and relaxed fits are the move, but for this year’s season opener, I really didn’t want his attire to be boring, so I decided to go with a statement jacket from Coker Studios which Marcus really loved. Temi Coker, the founder, is a really talented visual artist based in Dallas, who has since started bringing his vision into some unique and creative garments. Although some last minute rainfall served as a bit of a spoiler for the walk in shots, the ā€˜For the Lover’s jacket was the focal point for this outfit, with the simple pairing of tailored black trousers and black lug soled penny loafers

Week 2 @ Miami Dolphins

Away games are considered business trips, and typically calls for more of a formal attire. For this week, specifically with the Miami Heat and humidity in mind, I thought it was a perfect opportunity for Marcus to sport a lightweight suit. With a mix of Cuban and Italian flair, we went with a vibrant camp collar shirt layered over the suit jacket. And for the finishing touches, rose tinted shades, and a pair of brown lug soled fisherman sandals for extreme comfort and ventilation.

Week 3 v. Pittsburg Steelers

Back in Foxborough for another sunny home game, I really wanted Marcus to switch things up this week with a swaggy streestyle getup. My initial idea was to go the sleeveless route, and so the search for a vibrant sweater vest commenced. After a few searches, I stumbled across Kwasi Paul’s Obaa Simaa Jacquard vest, a Ghanian and West-African themed Brand, started a few years ago by Sam Boakye, who I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago on an SG project. One of my absolute favorite things when it comes to styling projects like these, is the opportunity to not only discover new brands, but to also shine a spotlight on some really cool small businesses, whom like Southern Gents, often get overlooked but are working really hard to put out some strong quality pieces.

I paired this vest with our brown cargo pants, red tinted frames, and a cowry necklace for a full motherland vibe. For footwear, I chose to go with a pair of Adidas x Fear of God sneakers because of their clean and futuristic silhouette. And finally an olive green toiletry bag to add a bit of militant feel.

Week 4 v. Carolina Panthers

Marcus has always been a big fan of business casual outfits, and it’s truly where his comfort zone lies. And it honestly comes at no surprise that he had a breakout game on this day with 167 Punt return yds and 1 touchdown, dubbing him AFC Special Teams player of the week and setting a punt return yards franchise record. Oh My! For this week, we had our minds set on a simple casual outfit. However, we made things interesting with a few staple accessories, proper fit and clean tailoring in our Black cable knit polo, grey trousers, black lug sole penny loafers and a pair of blue tinted frames. Again simple, but extremely effective, and weather appropriate.

Week 5 v. Buffalo Bills

With the weather starting to cool down, and for a Primetime Sunday Night Football showdown against a contentious division rivalry, and revenge game for former Buffalo wideout Steffon Diggs, I knew we had to pull out the big guns for this one. So we set our eyes on the Double-breasted suit in Tobacco, with a denim shirt pairing, a vibrant textured striped tie for just the right amount of flair, and our classic black penny loafers with an olive green sock pairing.

As I deeply believe and love to say to all our professional athletes in the SG Army; if you ā€˜Dress Well’ there’s a high likelihood that you’ll ā€˜Play Better’. And the exact same goes for us as working class Gentlemen. As the saying goes, how you do one thing, is how you do everything. Because the way we show up is part of our belief system, should command respect and sets a high level of expectation for ourselves and others around us. It’s all in the mind and flows down into our subconscious.

Needless to say, it’s been a ton of fun putting all these looks together and brainstorming with Marcus on how to further diversify his looks and personal style. But things are going to get even more exciting as the temperature subsides. Because there’s nothing better than working with layers, from street style ensembles, to casual or formal wear paired with jackets and coats. Drop a comment in the poll below to let me know which look was your favorite, what items or styles you’d like to see us play with in the rest of the season for Gameday Fits, or your general thoughts altogether. Until next time Gents, and ladies too! šŸ«”

Cheers,

Sincerely,
