4 tips for Workplace Swagger • 💼
Because everyone is a 'personal brand'...

As Gentlemen, looking our best is something we typically take pride in. Lately however, I couldn’t help but notice that this has become the norm for weekend outings only. At least that seems to be the case locally here in Texas. Most of us guys, tend to slack off a bit when it comes to our work style. And if I had to guess, it’s likely because we’ve gotten deeply accustomed to our weekly regimen. Same office, same commute, and same workplace associates.
Nonetheless, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind us all, that not only is great style about ‘quality’ reps, but also an excellent way to keep our spirits lifted, and to bring some much needed excitement to the mundane. So here are 4 tips to help bring that spark back into your work life balance. ⚡️
Separate with Style
The office has become much more of a casual place, but this by no means is a reason to be a slouch. Sure it may seem over the top for most to wear a suit these days, but it’s a good idea to still mix in your favorite blazer; perhaps on Mondays and especially for important meetings. I’ve always loved pairing a perfectly tailored blazer, with a pair of denim or contrasting trouser to make things a little less formal. It’s a great way to have fun with your formal items, and if nothing else, you can bet the house that it commands a great deal of self-respect.
Carry with Class.
Yes, how you carry matters. Depending on what items you every-day carry, a sleek briefcase or preferably a leather folio that can neatly house your laptop, cellphone, a pen, and a note pad, helps shed unnecessary weight. This simple additional, will easily have you feeling on top of the world….and a LOT more stylish. Consider investing in a second laptop charger, to prevent yourself from having to lug around a heavy bulky load.

Grand Slam Accessories.
If you’re going to wear a tie, then choose one that draws attention and serves as a focal point. And not necessarily with color, but with texture and/or interesting patterns. Shantung raw silk ties in solid or patterned colors are hard to beat, and lightweight wool ties are great choices as well. Wearing a polo, add a subtle 3mm gold necklace high enough to be visible (you’ll probably have to get it shortened) with one shirt button unfastened. 16”-18” is typically a good length, depending of course on the size of your neck. And for a solid blazer + t-shirt combo, add a patterned silk or bamboo cotton pocket square with a neat puff fold, to make such a casual laid back approach feel intentional.
4. Right Soles for the Job
You should always dress for comfort, but here’s where you find the perfect balance between functionality and your environment. For work in casual settings or if you have a long walking distance to your office building, consider a classic plimsoll sneaker or lug soled loafer. On the other hand, if you find yourself in a more professional office setting and/or with little to no walking commute, then leather soled loafers, oxfords or split toe derbys will work just fine. And yes, even with denim.
Remember dressing well is two-fold. First for you, and you alone: to feel unstoppable, like you could conquer the world with the stroke of a pen. I often look at style as a daily personal ritual, and a reminder that anything is possible, and impossible is nothing…you just have to believe and then dress like it. Second, to inspire, set the pace, and the expectation for others around you. That what ‘they’ see is what they get…and then some. Remember, how you do one thing, is how you do everything. But most of all, and like the subtitle says, ‘everyone is a personal brand’. So what does your brand say about you?
