Staying Dapper with Sleeveless Layers. 🍁
A menswear staple perfect for a busy lifestyle.
Greeting Gents,
The Fall + Winter season is finally upon us, and what better way to kick things off than with a quick style note. Putting outfits together in cooler seasons can either be an exciting, or daunting task. And one of my favorite ways to do it, is to go sleeveless with a Quilted or Puffer vest. There’s something about this style of outerwear, that’s perfectly suitable for on-the-go type of activities, both during the week and on the weekend. Best of all, it just has its way of looking good with just about anything.
For this style note, I decided to go with our Puffer Vest in Black + Red. It’s heavily padded, and feels super cozy under cooler temperatures. The second decision I had to make, is deciding what under layer to pair it with, especially since this style of outerwear covers up your torso only. I’ve gone with a neutral grey hoodie from the Brooklyn Circus, in order to keep the focal point of the outfit, on the pattern and contrasting color of the vest. Depending on the occasion or weather conditions, you could also pair this with a turtleneck sweater, thermal crewneck or a medium weight T-shirt.
Because I’ve themed this specific outfit for a weekend evening hangout, introducing a pair of Converse Chuck Taylors to the ensemble, was a no brainer. They’re extremely comfortable and provide a classic sporty vibe. It should be no surprise by now, that I’m a stickler for high-low combinations, so I’ve opted for a pair of tailored black trousers and matching calf length socks. If you’re not hip to the high-low template, don’t sweat it. It’s simply means introducing at least one dressy element to your outfit, to avoid making it look overly casual or athletic.
Headgear is completely optional here… but it’s always a nice way to introduce just a bit of color, or contrast to any outfit. Additionally, the winter season allows us to play with a wider variety of options, from ball caps and newsboy caps, to fisherman beanies, and fedoras. Any of these would have worked just fine, but again and with a high-low strategy in mind, the earth tone shades of the Ferguson Fedora, seemed to be the perfect choice to spruce up this outfit.
And finally, some accessories to provide a nice finishing touch to this swanky pairing, including a wrist watch, cuff bracelet, and a couple of rings. Sites like Amazon and Jewelry1000 always have quite a few sick options. For wrist and finger accessories, I typically prefer to go with a stainless steel finish, simply because they are extremely versatile, and I’d rather not bother with constantly switching accessories.
And there you have it. A stylish, but most importantly, an extremely comfortable outfit template, for kicking back at your favorite sport bar or meeting up with friends this holiday season. As always, hope you’ve enjoyed this episode of SG style notes. Please be sure to drop a vote in the poll below, and to let me know if you enjoyed this write up.
