Styling your Trucker Jacket. 🌤️

Weekend inspiration w/ Max Twitty.

Greeting Gents

It’s no longer winter, but also quite a few good weeks from summer. This in between season, otherwise known as spring, is short lived for some and a bit of a long stretch for others. Looking your best at this time of the year, can be somewhat challenging, especially if you plan to do it without sacrificing comfort. A good friend of ours, Max Twitty, was in town from NYC this past weekend. Max is a Business Administrator in the Finance & Asset Management industry by day, and menswear/lifestyle enthusiast by night. I’ve always loved Max's style, and he has a keen eye for photography, menswear, and all things aesthetic.

During his short stay here in Houston, Max and I caught up with a few friends at Urban Smoke, over a few cigars & whiskey cocktails. I seldom turn down the opportunity to work with another brilliant creative, so I decided to pitch him the idea of putting together an impromptu, spring-themed studio shoot, that’s perfect for the weekend. From errand runs, to brunch, or even date night.

At this time of the year, there’s still plenty of room to have fun with a wide range of layers, so we got to work the very next day. After touring the S-Gents facility, Max set his eye on the Dusty Blue Trucker Jacket, which I instantly agreed was a perfect choice for the occasion. It’s super comfortable and lightweight, with a modern tailored fit, and a cropped length that hits right below the waist.

Figuring out a set of trousers and base layer to pair with, wasn’t too difficult either. Max chose to go with the relaxed tee in pastel blue, and a pair of relaxed fit Levi denim he already had on, both of which came together perfectly for a monochromatic look. Oh … by the way, if you find yourself in a much warmer climate, a neutral colored tank top or dri-fit sleeveless tee, might be an even more appropriate choice. When working with a lightweight jacket, it’s typically a smart idea to keep your base layer tucked in. This helps to make any casual ensemble neat and sophisticated, while keeping the focal point on the outer-layer, and without any distraction from loose fabric draping underneath.

Nonetheless, we went back and forth on potential footwear options, namely between a camel suede Chelsea boot and lug soled penny loafer. We made the decision to go with the Brown + White Penny Loafer, simply because…nothing screams spring, like a stylish pair of loafers. (By the way…our Smithson lug loafers will be restocked in a few weeks. So if you’d like to snag a pair, we highly recommend signing up for restock text alerts, in your desired size). But more importantly, this choice of footwear gave the outfit a Midas touch, keeping things classy and casual while providing a sharp earth-toned contrast, that isn’t over the top.

Now one of the things that I really appreciate about Max’s style, is his thoughtful choices in accessories. It seems to be the swiss army knife for daily style, and something that all well dressed Gents have in common. From the gold cuff bracelet, vintage gold watch + signet ring, to the 5 panel ball cap and clear acetate frames. These carefully selected personal gems all come together effortlessly, making such a simple outfit quite stylish, and intentional.

And finally, a retro inspired tote bag to carry his belongings when catching the subway to run errands, do some shopping, or visit his favorite coffee shops in Manhattan. A few items in his everyday carry include his iPad or MacBook, dopp kit aka toiletry bag with grooming essentials, AirPods, a couple of cigars, and Sony A7C camera kitted with a 40mm lens for street photography. I think this is a brilliant choice for his personal lifestyle, because not only does the fatigue, army green cotton fabric looks great with any outfit. It’s also extremely functional, and a comfortable way to carry his personal belongings, while making moves around the city.

And there you have it. One stylish way to rock your Trucker Jacket this Spring. For all things menswear, travel, spirits & lifestyle, feel free to connect with Max on his social media @maxtwitty, you certainly won’t be disappointed. In the meantime, I’m sure we’ll be styling this jacket a few more times throughout the year, simply because it’s so versatile, and a casual menswear staple that’s perfectly fitting for any season.

We’ll also be working on restocking a few other options in different color ways, later this summer, like tan and olive. As always, drop a note in the poll below to let me know your thoughts on this style take, or if there are other color ways of this jacket you’d like to see in production. Until next time, I’ll catch you Gents and ladies on the next one. âśŚđźŹľ
