Work Week Layers with a Twist⚡️• Part I

Remarkable functional style on the streets and in the office.

Greetings Gentlemen,

Since we are just about in full winter swing, it’s a perfect time to dive into some seasonal looks for the workplace. This week, we’ll start with some transitional layering tips, with sleeveless outerwear. Dressing for the office or any workplace for that matter, can prove quite challenging as you’re technically dressing for two different climates, while obviously still trying to look the part. Between the frigid temperatures on a cool morning, and the warm cozy heat of a climate controlled environment, a quilted or puffer vest is a great option, since it serves as a durable outdoor insulation while commuting to and from your workplace. You’ll just have to make sure you start with the right base layer, and in this case, a turtleneck sweater.

When it comes to layering, your first article of clothing, should typically be the lightest. This helps retain comfort, as thicker garments are layered on top, allowing those heavier garments to be peeled off as needed or as the weather changes. I strongly recommend owning an assortment of turtleneck sweaters in colors like navy, grey, ivory or black. They’re extremely versatile and can be paired with a wide variety of jackets; from suit blazers to overcoats and biker jackets. Next, and in European Sartorial Fashion, we’ll double up that base layer with a denim oxford shirt. Together, these two lightweight layers create an aesthetically balanced look, that provide just the right amount of warmth indoors. Especially, once that puffer vest is peeled off.

Irvin Randle is 6ft 220lbs and is wearing a size 42 Puffer Vest.

For this styling session with Irvin (6’0 220lbs), I’ve also fitted him with our cashmere blend fisherman beanie, for much needed head warmth. This one is a double roll style, ensuring a perfect snug fitment that’s neither too small, nor too large, regardless of your head size.

Style Tip: To pull this off properly, you’ll want to ensure the cuff of your beanie is folded to about 2.5” to 3” in length.

When done right, there’s something about a fisherman beanie that’s visually pleasing, and compliments any outfit nicely. Not to mention, you can find them in a variety of colors when you’re looking to add a neutral or bold pop of color to your outfit.

For our footwear choice, these lug sole penny loafers have become a show stopper, and are an immaculate choice for long walks and commuting, thanks to the added level of comfort the thicker sole provides. However, they’re still distinguished enough for professional wear, and look great with any color of dress trousers or tailored denim. As you can see, these items including a puffer vest, turtleneck and loafer pairing, come together nicely, to create a work appropriate attire that’s neither overly restrictive, nor too laid back for the occasion.

Per usual, I’m always amazed at the power of a few well placed accessories. And with that said, an appropriate carrying case is something that can make or break the simplest of business casual outfits. Consider a slim leather folio, or minimal briefcase, depending of course on the quantity of items you carry daily. You can find either of these with a quick online search, just be sure to double check that the dimensions of the case is compatible with, and fits your electronics. To keep your hands warm, you can’t go wrong with a pair of driving or leather gloves. I myself, am a huge fan of the fingerless options.

Well Gents, I hope you enjoyed this week’s style tips. This one is a great way to mix in some of your summer pieces for the layering season. As always, if you’re having a hard time putting a similar look like this together, simply stick to earth tones and neutral colors. And if you’re feeling up to it, throw in some bold colors with a punchy turtleneck sweater or beanie. We’ll keep these coming, in hopes to get you closer to finding a style that excites you to jump out of bed, and start the work day. Because with great style, comes a better mood…and who in their right mind, dares to doubt a Gent with a resiliently positive attitude?

Until next time .. 🫡

Sincerely,

Fola,
Creative Director.
