Styling your Biker Jacket. ⚡️

Effortless Swag for Evening & Weekend Outings. 🏍️

Greeting Gents

Hope you all are staying warm and cozy under these freezing temperatures. And if you’re in Miami or Southern California and still getting to experience sunny skies and warm weather, then consider yourself lucky. Haha! It’s our first snow day in ages here in Houston, and for this edition of SG style notes, I’d like to walk you gents through a short & sweet styling session of our most recent Biker Jacket shoot. Many of you already own a biker jacket, and it’s a super stylish item to have in your arsenal, with many ways to wear it. Best of all, you can get away with sporting it any time of the year, from chilly winters to breezy summer evenings.

Our good friend, Nivas Kumar, was scheduled to be the model for this shoot, and as always, I made sure to style this look in a manner that would be flattering to both his physique and physical features. By day, Nivas is an Applied Neuroscientist, but in the evenings and on weekends, he enjoys salsa dancing, auditioning for acting roles in short films, and kicking back with friends at local sports bars. Not much different than the rest of us, Nivas’ out-of-office life is quite contrasting from his professional one. And being able to shift gears with his apparel, to fit those change in environments can be a tough challenge.

Focusing on an all black theme when working with a biker jacket, is typically a good idea, as it helps things flow rather effortlessly. This color scheme also allows the hardware and snazzy ornaments to stand out, without coming across like you’re trying too hard. For a sophisticated vibe and when it comes to footwear, the simpler the better. So think minimalist sneakers, a classic lace up or chelsea boots. And although, I opted for a classic dress sole with this outfit, a lug sole, flat rubber, or crepe sole would work just fine.

For underneath layers, I’m borrowing our turtleneck + denim button down combo from our ‘Work Week Layers’ shoot with Irvin. I’ve always wanted to try this look with a more casual ensemble, and it works quite well, keeping the entire outfit spiffy and polished. With Nivas being a long haired gentleman, a wide brim fedora is perfectly fitting, and so I’ve decided to go with the Naked fedora in olive. This helps maintain a subdued color palette and keeps things understated.

And finally a few accessories to spruce things up, starting with these clear framed oval sunglasses for some additional contrast, but without the typical metallic flare, as there’s enough snazziness going on with the rest of the outfit. This turqouise stone ring was also a nice touch, along with a staple Jack Daniel’s Whiskey flask that just seems to perfectly in any back pocket. Last but not least, I dug out a silver wallet chain to finish off that rock star vibe. This one is approximately 21” in length, to prevent it from hanging unnecessarily low. It’s also super functional, especially if you’d like to ensure you won’t be losing track of your keys, while hopping from venue to venue.

And that’s it. Just one of many ways to get a killer look out of your biker jacket, for any evening or weekend outings. I almost forgot how much I love this menswear staple and why, so I’ll be spending some time thinking about how we can offer more biker jacket options this coming Fall, in a wider variety of colors and textures. As always, drop a note in the poll below to let me know your thoughts on this style take, and I’ll catch you lads on the next one.

Sincerely,
